I'm a huge fan of Germany Kent's quotes. They are filled with wisdom and insight. Her quotes subtly encourages you take a moment to self reflect. Sometimes, if you are guilty of the message it brings about conviction. Conviction then usually brings about change. One of my favorite quotes by her is
"Don't judge someone for their choices when you don't understand their reasons" - Germany Kent
Often times we have an innate ability to judge others by the things they do, say, or even wear. I like to call it human. I think everyone judges at some point in time or another but it's what we do with those thoughts that matter.
It's easy to judge when you don't know a person's story. Even when you don't know the story, giving thought to why they've made the choices they did shows maturity and empathy. Take a few moments to understand why those choices were made. Reflect on personal choices you've made. Do you remember the time when someone made their own conclusion about your life but had never met you? We've all had that moment. I'm often judge by my natural state to observe when in new surroundings or unfamiliar people. In the beginning of all new relationships I'm social, but reserved. Some have thought I was too serious or not fun. They've later learned I'm very lighthearted and lovable. It's not until after I know the spirit of the people I meet I began to indulge, or not.
The next time you find yourself in a mental space that's filled with thoughts or critiques about someone whom you don't know, pause, then ask yourself "If I'm willing to give time to judge this person, am I willing to give time to understand this person? If your answer is yes, then do it. If your answer is no, then I think it's safe to say you should think twice about who is it that should be judged.
