Don't Be Impulsive, It Can Be Counterproductive

I was having a deep and informative conversation with a very good and wise friend of mine and he said a few things that really made me think.  Now this friend I consider my secret weapon because his intelligence and wisdom goes far beyond the charm he exudes.   We were discussing human behavior in regards to ulterior motives.  After a misfortunate situation or tragedy happens in our life the immediate actions we take and the choices we make are very sensitive and vulnerable.  

Impulsive behavior can lead us into a lot of things other than debt and disappointment.  Immediate reaction on a situation without carefully thinking of the results and or repercussions of those actions can worsen the outcome.  Responding impulsively to a negative situation could communicate things that you really don’t want communicated.  Whether or not your impulsive behavior was negative or positive, the lack of thoroughly examining the intent and purpose could be more of a hindrance than a help.

Counterproductive is hindering the achievement of a set goal or purpose.  Impulsive behavior can be counterproductive if we don’t measure our behavior.  Remember to always think before you act and make sure the choices you make after a misfortunate situation, or any situation, is one that will help you serve your purpose and not hinder your growth or weaken your strength.  Remember, for every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction. 

Are the decision and choices you make impulsive?  Are you mindful to avoid being counterproductive?

~Wisdom Wednesday..."When They Turn Left, You Turn Right"

We awake every morning, get up out of our comfortable beds, then proceed to our everyday routine and sometimes neglect to feed ourselves before leaving the house.  Lacking the nutrients we need to make it throughout the day. There are even times when our body is trying to tell us something but we disregard the signs.  Everything in us, emotionally, mentally, and physically silently attempts to speak words of wisdom and give signs of warning.   But instead, we sometimes make the choice to override what our spirit is speaking.

When everything in you is telling you that something is wrong don’t try to make it right.  When you witness or suspect negativity or poisonous behavior from someone disassociate yourself from them immediately.  When you go in the direction of progress and they pull in the opposite direction, don’t be afraid to just let go.  Trying to make something work that should not could result in damage to your trichotomy.  

If you are steering in the path of progress and success and the person or situation you associate yourself with turns left, then you need to turn right and go in the opposite direction away from them.  Pursuing or following an unhealthy situation can lead to a lot more than you expected.

Are you going in the right direction?  Are you listening to the language of your body?

To My Readers,

I know that it has been several weeks since I last posted to my blog.  I want to take the time out to apologize to those who were faithfully and consistently following my blog and the weekly posts.  The lack of posting over the past several weeks by far was negligence on my part.  In life we all have times when something, someone, or a situation demands our undivided attention.  When that happens, you simply have to follow your heart and make a choice to prioritize what is more important during that specific time.  Sometimes it's simply what you feel is more important but not necessarily what should be more important.

I look forward to writing and posting again to and as His Majesty's Favorite.  I hope each and every one of you will continue to drop by and read my posts.

Pursue Excellence But Avoid Perfectionism

I read this line while studying from one of my favorite leadership coaches, John C. Maxwell.  “Pursue excellence but avoid perfectionism” is weight off of your shoulders.  The thought of going after something, pursuing a goal, or striving to be successful are all journeys we want and hope one day to be “just right”.  We want it to be perfect.  Perfection is a fairytale word.  It’s a matter of opinion.  As you live everyday to its fullest reaching as high as you can, do as much as you can, but don’t chase the dream of being perfect because perfection is in the eye of the beholder. 

No one person is exactly the same so no two people will have the exact same perception on every single thing.  Living a life trying to be perfect in every way can be stressful and overwhelming.  The negative side effects that it causes are very unhealthy emotionally, mentally, and socially.   Even if one feels they have achieved perfection, they will not measure up to every one’s definition of a perfect life.  The woman who is married to a loyal and loving husband with two children feels life is perfect because she has a great family.  The single successful career woman who has just made partner at her law firm feels life is perfect because she has overtaken corporate America.  Both of these women feel they have reached perfection but by different definitions, yet they both have reached excellence in what they were pursuing.  They were passionate about their efforts.

Whatever it is you choose to pursue take steps towards excellence instead of pursuing perfection in a diverse world.  A place of perfection has a different definition by not only individuals but also by culture.  Measure your definition to your works and don’t allow another’s definition to define the object of your pursuit.

~Wisdom Wednesday... "Don't Act Out Of Emotions"

Everyone has emotions.  We deal with these emotions everyday both in our professional and personal life.  Our behaviors, decisions, thoughts, and even communication are all influenced by our emotions.  However, if not handled and controlled, living our life by the emotions we feel can be dangerous.

It’s ok to display emotions but don’t allow uncertain or negative emotions to either influence or provoke negative behaviors.  If we do this, we give our emotions control over situations that have or may not have established an outcome.  Some times there are personal circumstances where certain behaviors trigger certain emotions.  These emotions come prematurely and therefore causes us to act prematurely.  Maybe a decision that was made at work stirs up emotions because we disagree.  This type of occurrence can cause dissonant emotions.  Don’t allow these emotions to project and be displayed in your behavior before you had the time to examine and understand them.

Understanding your emotions and the cause or root of them is important.  They could be a result of a past situation that is not relevant to the one at hand, but instead we connect these emotions to the present circumstances because of similarities.  Don’t act out of emotions when you are unsure of why you are feeling what you are feeling.  Instead, act on the reasons for those emotions.

Division Of Mind. Life With The Super-Ego.

Reading the topic of this blog post may have lead you into believing that this may be another article summing up Freud’s theory on the id, ego, and superego.  Most people are familiar with this theory which provides a psychological explanation of our mental health and certain stages in our lives.  I won’t reiterate the theory, however, I’m going to discuss the Super Ego, the moral part of our minds and how it relates to life. 

When we were a child we thought as a child, when we become an adult we are to think as an adult, but sometimes our attitudes or emotional reactions are immature until later in our adult lives.  We grow to learn that not only can we not have what it is we want when we want it, but what we want is not always what we need.  The superego is the last part of the mind to develop.  What I like to think of as the point in our lives where we have discovered ourselves.  We know who we are and what it is that we want out of life.  When we reach this point we begin to work towards betterment.  Being knowledgeable of and accepting reality.

It’s at this point that we understand and separate our wants from our needs.  It’s important to reach a stage in life where you are measuring your actions in order to stay in line with future goals and aspirations.  This is a point in life where your morals and ethics govern your everyday behavior.  The point in life where your standards and level of excellence have increased for the mere fact that you now have an understanding of what is right and what is wrong, what should be and what needs to be. 

Identify with this stage in life. Embrace all of you and be rational about the decisions you make.  Don’t be a statistic of the pleasure principle.  Irrational thinking and instant gratification can have many consequences.  Be in a healthy state of mind in order to make healthy decisions.  

Where are you in your life?  Have you reached a level of maturity where your superego is the dominating state of mind?

I first witnessed LaKesha’s extendable insight and choice of quality when she reached out to me personally in hopes of recruiting me for The BOSS Network, an online network of professional women empowering each other.  Needless to say, she did.  From energetic and insightful tweets in my twitter feed to edifying blog posts in my reader, LaKesha is consistent in her delivery, a natural leader to those around her.  She recruits, shares, and makes an unforgettable impression to all who interacts with her online.  I learned this first hand when I had a random business call with a colleague and LaKesha’s name came up in the conversation as if we both knew her personally.  We didn’t.  It was the transparency and impact LaKesha made that exude familiarity.

Everywhere I go online, I see her.  This showed me how influential and inspirational she was to those who came into contact with her.  If you cross LaKesha’s path, you will surely be inspired by her words.  The magnitude of influence she has locally and online across the social network is really substantial.  I’ve watched how people recognized and acknowledge her because of her online presence.  She isn’t a hoax, she isn’t marketing her business, she is simply being LaKesha Womack, an Inspired Extraordinaire.  She is an individual who isn’t afraid to demonstrate and share all of their talents with a natural and unselfish attitude.

Our Actions Are Interpreters Of Our Thoughts

In yesterday’s Wisdom Wednesday’s post, Power of the Tongue, I wrote about how we speak the things that we think.  I said action starts with a thought.  Everything that we do or not do is a result of the way we think.  Our mindset and the debate of the conscious along with the secrets of the subconscious are all a mirror of who we are.  We become what we think and as Patrice Washington said in her blog, Seek Wisdom, Find Wealth “Remember that what you verbalize, you materialize…” It’s a circle of influence, we think it, we speak it, and then we manifest it.  Behold, we birth life from a thought.

John Lock said ~ “The actions of men are the best interpreters of their thoughts”

Men and women are measured by their actions.  You can say one thing and do another. Your actions will always carry the weight.  Our actions are silent words communicating not only our thoughts, but our ethics and morals.  It interprets our character.  Naturally, people believe your actions and may be skeptical of your words unless you have developed a relationship with them and therefore build trust and credibility.  Not everyone walks in believing is seeing.

It’s just as easy to say that you can’t do something as it is to say that you can.  We become what we speak.  The words that are spoken out of your mouth immediatley have life and can become viral.  The power to make that happen comes from the thought and belief in the words we speak.  There is definitely power in the tongue so we must be careful of the words that come out of our mouth.

Before a word is spoken it was first initiated with a thought.  The things we think about and allow in our mind can either be helpful or harmful to the way we live our life.  Action starts with a thought.  Giving conversation or words to that thought manifests it capabilities.

~ 7 Reasons Why... "You Shouldn't Be Afraid Of Success"

I always look at the glass half full instead of half empty.  Many of us have read reasons why people are afraid of success, in this post I choose not to discuss the negative but the positives.  Discussing the negative gives fuel to the fire and in some cases people tend to focus on that fire.

Breathe, release, and let go of any fears you may have of success.  Success is not something that you should deny because of fear.  Here are 7 reasons why you shouldn’t be afraid of success.

1. Win or Lose Situation – success is accomplished either way.  A salesman knows that a sell is made in every interaction, either you make the sell or the prospect sells you on why not.  In the case of success, either fear is successful in telling you that you can’t be successful or you are successful in overcoming fear of the unknown.

2. There Is Room At The Top – there is enough room in this world for everyone who chooses to be successful.   Remember the Pareto Principle and apply it, 80% of the wealth is only generated or owned by 20% of the population.  There are plenty of opportunities to benefit from this statistic and be apart of that 20%.  When you do make it to the top, just remember to help someone else get there.

3. Failure Hurts – if you do find yourself skeptical or afraid of success, think of the feeling immediately after that thought.  The emotion that comes with failure can hurt your pride and confidence.  The idea of failing in life can dominate your thoughts.  While you can’t be afraid of failure, you must also not be oppressed by the possibility.
